Good Neighbors
Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 27:10
Central Thought: Being and having good neighbors brings peace and security.
Because I have excellent neighbors, I feel a sense of freedom. When I go on a trip or a sudden emergency takes place, they take in my mail, watch my place, and water my plants. When I had a pet, they also would take care of it. I do the same for them. I also know there is someone instantly available when I’m scared or lonely. It’s a great feeling. There is mutual respect and friendship.
I’ve had neighbors that were just the opposite, so I cherish my good neighbors. As much as I might love relatives, they often live far away (mine are spread all over the USA and Germany). I can call them when there is a problem, but they can’t do much about it from that distance.
A neighbor is right there. It requires give and take, boundaries and tolerance to keep a neighborly relationship healthy. I dislike having someone camped on my doorstep every day, but a friendly wave is a wonderful gesture. Good relationships are important for our mental and spiritual health. Friends are hard to find and it is worth all the effort to maintain a vital relationship with them.
Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me be as good a neighbor to those close to me as I want them to be to me.
